Three guys were arrested by the Crime Branch on Saturday night from a flat in Katraj for running a betting ring over a T20 match.
The accused are all between the ages of 20 and 22, and they are from Beed, Latur, and Pune. Their possessions included mobile phones and other items worth a total of Rs 20.41 lakh. Three more people are being sought by police in connection with the investigation. The prime suspect, according to police, is still on the run.
Six people were arrested for T-20 World Cup match betting
Six bookmakers from Motia City, Zirakpur, were allegedly caught as part of a T-20 World Cup betting ring, according to police. According to Mohali SSP Navjot Singh Mahal, police recovered one laptop and 22 cellphones from their hiding spot.
Dharamvir, a resident of Hari Vishnu Colony, Sirsa (Haryana), Manoj Kumar, Raj Kumar alias Raju of Suratgarhia Bazar, Sirsa, Rajiv of Hari Vishnu Colony, Sirsa, Vishal Kumar of Shahpur Begu village, Sirsa, and Sunil Kumar alias Sonu of Sardulgarh, district Mansa have been reported as the six bookies. They've been suspected of wagering on the final match of the T-20 World Cup between Australia and New Zealand.
According to the SSP, the CIA employees at the Mohali police station received an intelligence tip on Sunday alleging that the six defendants were betting on the final match of the T-20 Cricket World Cup 2021 between Australia and New Zealand by defrauding innocent people.
A police team from Mohali raided the residence and caught the suspects, recovering 22 cellphones and one HP laptop in the process. They were arrested at Zirakpur police station and charged under sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 13 -3-67 of the Gambling Act.
The suspects were wagering on the ongoing T-20 World Cup cricket match at Dharamvir's flat in Motia City. For many years, they have been active in sports betting. With the money, Dharamveer bought a flat in Zirakpur's Motia City. On Monday, the accused, who reportedly operated a major betting network and websites, appeared in court and were remanded in custody.
The team was lead by CIA personnel and smashed the betting racket under the supervision of SP Wazir Singh Khaira, inspector Sukhnaj Singh, and inspector Baljinder Singh, in-charge of CIA, Mohali.
Online cricket betting scam exposed while one had been held.
Task Force and Golconda police officers raided an internet cricket betting operation and nabbed one suspect, while two others remain at large. On Thursday, the police raid occurred during a T20 World Cup match.
Mohammed Asgar was identified as the arrested suspect, but Bajighar and Pratyush remained at large. According to cops, Asgar bought an online application on commission from Bajighar and used it to run cricket betting in Hyderabad and other places. "Later, on commission basis, he handed over the app to Pratyush, who had been running the internet betting since," a detective stated.
Five people caught red-handed by Rachakonda Police for Cricket betting
Five persons were nabbed by the Chaitanyapuri police station in Rachakonda on Tuesday for internet and offline cricket betting. Police officials confiscated Rs 14.92 lakh, one laptop, and eight cellphones during the arrests, totaling nearly Rs 16,00,000.
As per the police, the accused include Bairamal Sridhar, 36, a businessman from Kothapet, 26-year-old Sambram Ramanjaneyulu, a driver from Uppal, 43-year-old Jajula Ramu, a gouda shop owner from Saroornagar, 51-year-old Boinpally Chatrapathi, a real estate businessman from Saroornagar, and 40-year-old Gouni Kalyan, also a real estate businessman.
Bairamal Sridhar owns a book stand in Koti, while Sambram Ramanjaneyulu works at Bairamal's shop. The Bairamal is well-known to the other three defendants.
Bairamal has allegedly been operating an online cricket betting business from his home for the past few years by installing online cricket applications such as 'Cricket line guru' and 'cricket exchange,' both of which are available on the Google Play Store, to make money quickly.
The aforementioned smartphone applications are developed for real-time cricket scores, providing ball-by-ball updates of live cricket matches. Other than live score updates, the app also shows the name of the favourite team and an estimate of the match-winning rate. Using this as an advantage, Bairamal began betting on cricket online and offline using his laptop, associating his other four defendants as punters, according to the police.
For the last two ICC T-20 world cup matches, the accused engaged in internet betting. On October 24, betting for the India-Pakistan match was held, while on October 25, betting for the Afghanistan-Scotland match was held. Similarly, they were planning to gamble on the matches between West Indies and South Africa, as well as Pakistan and New Zealand, when Rachakonda police and the special operations team entered the residential Bairamal and arrested all of the suspects.
