Gopal Kanda, an entrepreneur and politician with a tumultuous past, has won the Haryana assembly elections. Kanda's company, Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd, owns and operates the Casino Big Daddy (GGHPL). By winning the election, Kanda had become the first-ever casino owner in India to have won an election.
After a stint in real estate, Kanda founded MDLR Airlines in 2007, named after his father Murli Dhar Lakh Ram. MDLR, on the other hand, was downed within two years. However, it didn't stop the main man. Kanda's Golden Globe Hotels Private Limited is currently operating a casino in Goa.
Kanda first became interested in Goa's casino industry in 2011, when he had purchased the offshore Casino Rio from the Leela Group of Hotels but was unable to operate it due to licensing concerns. The Big Daddy is GGHPL's second ship to be allowed to operate lawfully in the Mandovi River.
